Pro-Ject Head Box S2 Digital Black – get more out of your headphones

Pro-Ject Head Box S2 Digital Black is for those who want to immerse themselves in music at the computer or give their headphones a permanent place in the stereo system. It combines a DAC and headphone amplifier in a compact, black cabinet with digital inputs for several different audio sources.

What we especially like about the solution is its simplicity: Connect your digital audio source and your headphones, and adjust the volume directly from the knob on the front.

Pro-Ject Head Box S2 Digital for computer and stereo system

The USB-B input makes Head Box S2 Digital ideal for use with a computer, while the optical and coaxial inputs make it possible to connect, for example, a compatible TV, a streamer, or a CD player.

You select the input directly on the front, where small LEDs show which source is active. This gives you a compact headphone system that is not limited to one specific music source.

When the unit is connected to a computer via USB, it can also be powered directly through the USB cable. When using the other digital inputs without USB power, the external 5 V power supply is used.

ESS Sabre DAC with five digital filters

The built-in ESS Sabre DAC converts the digital music signal into analog sound. Via USB, the unit supports high-resolution PCM files up to 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD256 when used with compatible playback software.

Pro-Ject has also developed double filtering of unwanted noise from the USB connection. The aluminum and metal cabinet is also designed to limit the impact of vibrations and electromagnetic interference.

You can choose between five digital filters directly on the front. This lets you try different filter characteristics and find the setting you prefer for your music and your headphones.

Also a DAC for your stereo system

Head Box S2 Digital does not have to be used only with headphones. The analog RCA output on the back can be connected to a line input on your amplifier, so the unit can also handle the digital conversion in your stereo system.

When you connect headphones, the sound on the RCA output is automatically muted. This makes it easy to switch between music through the speakers and personal listening, without having to move signal cables or use separate DACs for the two tasks.
