PERLISTEN S7t Black Edition
PERLISTEN S7t Black Edition is a floorstanding speaker for the hi-fi enthusiast who demands high standards of precision, dynamics, and construction. PERLISTEN bases the model on the S7t, but has changed several key parts. This includes the cabinet, DPC array, woofers, and crossover. The S7t Black Edition is therefore suited to ambitious stereo and home theater systems, where sound and construction must go hand in hand.
PERLISTEN further develops the DPC array
PERLISTEN uses its patented DPC array in the S7t Black Edition. Here, the manufacturer mills the construction from a 40 mm piece of aluminum with tolerances down to 0.1 mm. The aluminum also functions as a heatsink for the three dome drivers and helps control the temperature.
The midrange drivers use TPCD – Thin Ply Carbon Diaphragm – based on TeXtreme carbon fiber. According to PERLISTEN, the material weighs 30% less than traditional carbon fiber of the same thickness. At the same time, the material offers high strength and helps distribute breakups across a wider frequency range.
More excursion in the woofers
PERLISTEN has also changed the bass section. A new voice coil and magnet system provides 20% greater linear excursion than in the original S7t.
The manufacturer also uses an additional shorting ring as an internal heatsink. It works together with an external copper heatsink and helps manage the heat around the voice coil.
A cabinet focused on stability
The S7t Black Edition uses aluminum panels on the sides. They add mass and help damp the cabinet.
PERLISTEN has also developed a special isolation and damping system for the speaker. At the bottom is a 20 mm thick CNC-machined steel base weighing 18 kg. The base gives the speaker a stable foundation and helps limit vibrations between the speaker and the floor.
When measurements become part of the sound experience
PERLISTEN has redesigned the crossover for the S7t Black Edition. The manufacturer sorts the components to tolerances of 1% and matches each pair of speakers with the corresponding crossovers within 0.5 dB.
PERLISTEN carries out the work at its development center in Madison, Wisconsin. Here, the manufacturer measures each speaker with Klippel near-field measurements and matches the speakers in pairs. Each pair is also certified. PERLISTEN also states that the customer receives Spinorama measurements for the specific pair of speakers.
The S7t Black Edition shows how far PERLISTEN goes with its speaker technology. The model combines advanced drivers with a solid cabinet and extensive measurements. It is aimed at the serious listener who wants to build their stereo or home theater system around one of PERLISTEN's most ambitious speakers.
