Chord Mojo 2 - The new benchmark for DAC/headphone amplifiers
With the new Mojo 2, Chord Electronics has launched the world's first lossless DSP, setting a completely new standard for portable sound quality. Again. In the nearly 7 years since its predecessor was created, Rob Watts has reassessed, rethought, and reconstructed the original DAC/headphone amplifier with groundbreaking, world-leading technology.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Unheard-of transparency
- Lively, spacious, dynamic, and open sound
- UHD DSP
- Excellent volume control
- Great control across the frequency range
- Perfect for both portable and desktop use
- 4 digital inputs
- Long battery life
- Efficient charging
New technologies and features
One of the many new features that Mojo 2 benefits from is the revolutionary and lossless DSP, the first of its kind in the world. This innovative "UHD DSP" is completely transparent, and it enables extensive tone adjustments across the frequency range without any loss of sound quality. This makes Mojo 2 compatible with the wide range of headphones available today, regardless of their type and sound signature. At the same time, it makes it flexible with different source components and digital file types.
Another new feature is the menu system, which can now be navigated via a fourth button, bringing with it a mute function, four-setting crossfeed adjustments, a lock-button function for travel, plus completely lossless tone controls.
For even better functionality, Mojo 2 has also been given a full four digital inputs, thanks to a new USB-C input. USB-C sits alongside optical, coaxial, and micro USB, and two 3.5 mm mini-jack headphone outputs allow up to two people to listen at the same time. That makes it perfect for long flights.
Better battery and charging
Mojo 2 also offers a much better battery that can be charged far more quickly and with as much as 75% less power loss. This provides much cooler and more efficient charging, along with better battery life, which now reaches up to eight hours.
Mojo 2's "Intelligent Desktop Mode" technology has also been improved and now has an isolated battery and a redesigned PSU that supports battery-free operation without any loss of sound quality.
Improved transparency
The new DAC/headphone amplifier has also now been DC-coupled with a digital DC servo. It benefits from an improved WTA filter, offering as many as 40,960 taps using 40 DSP cores. This term is an indicator of how complex the interpolation filter is, and in addition there is also an improved noise shaper, which provides greater depth and detail perception along with lower distortion and noise. The new coupling capacitors have also made it possible to achieve much greater neutrality.
The world's first UHD DSP
The new fully transparent UHD DSP offers a precision that no other DSPs are capable of. It uses a 104-bit custom DSP core running at 705/768kHz and has extensive internal noise shaping, making it possible to deliver complete transparency while preserving the filtering of ultra-small signals.
The unique UHD DSP also makes it possible to fine-tune across the entire frequency range with 18-step adjustment per frequency band (lower bass, midrange, lower treble, and upper treble). The volume control has also been improved from +18 dB to -108 dB, and a new four-setting crossfeed function suddenly brings the same spatial effects you experience when listening to speakers.
With Mojo 2, Chord Electronics has surpassed itself once again, and if you are looking for the very best DAC/headphone amplifier on the market, you owe it to yourself to listen to Mojo 2.
