Chord Epic X speaker cable - speaker cable with care for the entire connection
Chord EpicX is for those who are already happy with their amplifier and speakers and want to give the connection between them the same attention. The cable builds on Chord's OdysseyX with extra shielding developed to limit the impact of high-frequency interference.
What we especially find interesting about EpicX is the combination of silver-plated copper conductors, XLPE insulation, and a well-thought-out shielding design. Here, both the conductors and the materials around them have been chosen with a focus on giving the music signal good conditions on its way to the speakers.
Highlights
- Speaker cable based on Chord OdysseyX
- Silver-plated conductors made of oxygen-free copper
- XLPE insulation around the individual conductors
- Twisted conductor pair with high-frequency shielding
- Combined foil and braided shield
- Can be terminated with ChordOhmic banana plugs or spade connectors
Materials designed to work together
EpicX uses two 12 AWG conductors made of oxygen-free, silver-plated copper. Each conductor has a cross-sectional area of 3.31 mm² and is insulated with XLPE before the conductors are twisted around each other.
The construction is based on OdysseyX, but EpicX adds more extensive shielding to the design. For us, it is precisely the whole that is worth looking at: the conductors, the insulation, and their mutual placement are parts of the same cable design rather than standalone properties.
Shielding around the speaker signal
The most significant difference from OdysseyX lies in the shielding. EpicX combines a dense foil with a metal braid that has a coverage of 93%. The two layers are designed to limit high-frequency interference around the conductors.
The shielding sits under a transparent PVC outer jacket and is an integrated part of the cable. This makes EpicX relevant if you want a shielded speaker cable and would like to consider the connection between the components as part of the overall setup.
The right termination for your system
EpicX can be terminated with ChordOhmic 4 mm banana plugs or spade connectors, so the connection can be adapted to the terminals on your amplifier and your speakers. Chord also offers professional termination through selected dealers using their ChordOhmic Hex Gun tool.
With a total diameter of 11 mm, EpicX is a relatively thick cable. Therefore, take the space behind the components and the required cable length into account so the connections do not get pulled tight. We are happy to help you find the length and termination that suits your system.
