TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN
Børresen has replaced the copper rings in the speaker with handmade silver rings, specially designed by Børresen itself. This significantly reduces inductance. Inductance in Børresen speakers is already approximately 10 times lower than in conventional models, but in the Silver Supreme Edition it is as much as 12 times lower. All metal components undergo cryogenic treatment, which further reduces inductance by 6-8%. The result is a pure, clear, and refined soundstage, placing the Silver Supreme Edition firmly in the absolute high-end class and setting a completely new standard.
CRYOGENIC TREATMENT ENSURES PURE SOUND
Børresen uses cryogenic treatment on all metal parts of the speaker to ensure a further significant improvement in conductivity. When metal parts undergo cryogenic treatment, they are exposed to extreme cooling. In this process, the metal structure contracts more and more. Alloying elements are pushed out of the grain structure of the metal, which now becomes very similar to a monocrystal. The result is that the metal component becomes stronger, the internal stress during solidification from liquid to solid form is reduced, and conductivity is increased.
All metal parts in these speaker series undergo cryogenic treatment. The cryogenic treatment cycle requires a time window of 3 days. Within the first 24 hours, the metal undergoes a cooling process from room temperature to cryogenic temperatures. During the next 24 hours, the metal parts are kept at temperatures around -196°C (-321°F) before the temperature, within the following 24 hours, gradually returns to room temperature. The gradual cooling and heating are crucial to avoid thermal stress. The process strengthens and compresses the grain structure of the metal parts and reduces the inherent residual stress that occurs when metal solidifies from its liquid phase to a solid phase.
Bass/midrange diaphragm
The diaphragm is designed to achieve maximum rigidity with minimal noise. In the Silver Supreme Edition, the diaphragm consists of two layers of very thin carbon on both sides of a 4 mm Nomex honeycomb core. This composite structure is the same as the one used in Formula 1 race cars. It provides the ultimate combination of rigidity and weight ratio. The exceptionally low weight of only 5.5 grams enables a very high acceleration factor in the driver, resulting in both outstanding resolution and higher efficiency.
O-series crossover
The Børresen Silver Supreme Edition speakers are equipped with a series crossover configuration, which means that the drivers share the same electrical current in the crossover region. The electrical signals going to the speakers are therefore "phase-locked." This creates a more coherent and harmonious sound experience. In standard parallel filtering, each driver receives its own frequency and phase content. The Børresen approach reduces signal distortion and improves the overall coherence of the sound, leaving you with an acoustic pleasure.
For the crossover filter, we have made a major effort to source the best and most sophisticated components of the highest quality. The coils for the crossover filter are foil types, wound with paper insulation and impregnated with resin under vacuum to make them mechanically extremely solid and stable.
For the crossover capacitors, Børresen uses arrays of small military-spec stack-foil types. They have the best mechanical stability and the lowest induction of all types of capacitors on the market (and they sound fantastic, too). For tweeter attenuation resistors, they use metal-strip types, as they have by far the lowest noise values and, in addition, very low thermal variation.
The cabinet
Børresen speaker cabinets are built with heavy bracing and compressed wood, beautifully veneered in walnut and fitted with solid walnut inserts. The cabinets combine the finest Danish furniture design tradition with stylish shapes, originally created by the late Franco Serblin of Sonus Faber. The tweeter section is vented to balance air pressure, while the bass sections are equipped with tuned ports calibrated to musically relevant frequencies.
Ansuz Darkz for better decoupling
Ansuz Darkz decouplers are designed to ensure significantly better mechanical decoupling of the speaker cabinet from the stand and the floor. Ansuz Darkz consists of three discs separated by three titanium ball bearings. They are available in four different alloys, providing different levels of resonance control depending on the desired sonic result. There are three holes in the surface of the stand’s top plate, which contain the built-in Darkz resonance-control decouplers between the speaker and the plate. The stand’s feet are designed to rest on individual Darkz decouplers, which can be selected as needed.
The Tesla coil principle
The Tesla coil principle is based on the use of two coils wound in opposite directions – one coil and one counter-coil. When the Tesla coil encounters a voltage peak, a counter-spike is activated to eliminate the noise. This method is effective because noise spikes carry only pure voltage and almost no charge, making the interruption of the noise highly effective. By adding multiple P-TC coils in parallel, efficiency increases, and the perceived "blackness" in the music is significantly improved. Ansuz Tesla coils are available in different types and complement each other in terms of strengths and weaknesses.
Anti-airborne resonance coil technology
All cables and cable trims act as antennas for airborne RF noise, which can be a major problem. The passive Tesla coil is wound around the outer part of the cable and protects the signal from absorbing this RF noise. This noise is absorbed in the Tesla coil, and noise peaks are effectively eliminated. When current runs through the conductor and it is wound in the opposite direction, it is used as a counter-coil, and the RF noise is then eliminated.
