HDI HORN TECHNOLOGY

Summit Makalu uses JBL's patented D2830K 3-inch dual-diaphragm, dual-motor compression driver, coupled to a precision-molded Sonoglass® HDI™ horn. This combination ensures high efficiency, low distortion, and precise dispersion of high-frequency energy, resulting in an open and detailed soundstage with precise placement of instruments and voices.

HC4 MIDBASS AND WOOFER WITH HIGH STRENGTH AND LOW DISTORTION

The sonic foundation is provided by an 8-inch midbass driver and a 12-inch woofer, both built on robust cast frames. They use JBL’s exclusive triple-layer Hybrid Carbon Cellulose Composite (HC4) cones, in which carbon fiber and pure pulp are combined with a closed-cell foam core. This construction provides optimal stiffness, low mass, and high damping, enabling powerful bass reproduction with extreme precision and low distortion even at high sound pressure levels.

MULTICAP™ CROSSOVER FOR OPTIMAL SIGNAL DISTRIBUTION

Summit Makalu is equipped with JBL’s MultiCap™ crossover network, which replaces large capacitors with several smaller ones to reduce ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance). The result is higher signal throughput, improved power handling, lower distortion, and greater dynamic range. With both single-wire and bi-amp/bi-wire connection options, the system can be optimized for different amplifier configurations.

ACOUSTICALLY OPTIMIZED CABINET WITH RESONANCE CONTROL

The cabinet construction is designed with internal offset multi-bracing and curved walls to minimize standing waves and internal resonances. Heavy damping ensures a neutral acoustic environment in which the drivers can perform at their maximum. The cabinet is available in high-gloss black with Summit platinum details or high-gloss ebony veneer with Summit gold details, both with carbon fiber inlays around the baffle.

ISOLATION FOR MAXIMUM CLARITY AND BASS CONTROL

The base of each speaker is equipped with specially designed JBL | IsoAcoustics® feet that effectively decouple the cabinet from the surface beneath it. This vibration isolation reduces unwanted energy transfer, resulting in tighter bass, improved stereo imaging, and greater depth in the soundstage.
