X1 series Diaphragm - bass/midrange

The ground-breaking membrane of the X1 series is designed with the aim of achieving maximum stiffness and minimum noise. To achieve this unmatched performance, all components were designed, developed and assembled in-house. The X1 membrane consists of three layers, laminated into a single unit: two layers of dispersed carbon fiber, with a layer of aramid honeycomb spacers in between. This unique composition of materials gives the membrane its unique properties. Dispersed carbon fiber is designed to provide optimal stiffness, reducing disruptive sound vibrations and resonances to unprecedented levels. Aramid honeycomb has the best stiffness-to-weight ratio in the vertical direction. The flat response of the diaphragm, in terms of resonances, enables the creation of an extremely transparent speaker with a smaller magnet motor system to optimize costs.

Unique magnet motor system

In the X1 series magnetic motor system, double copper jackets are used on the pole ring to achieve high flux and low inductance. This technology has been borrowed from the Børresen Z series. Copper helps reduce electromagnetic resonance by counteracting flux changes, resulting in a flatter inductance curve and fewer peaks in the impedance curve. This reduced inductance puts less stress on the amplifier. To ensure high efficiency, the X1 is equipped with two pole rings, and any loss of flux is compensated by a larger magnet.

Ultra light treble without distortion

The tweeter in the X1 uses the same basic design as in all other Børresen speaker series. However, a reduction in magnet and iron mass has been achieved thanks to the extremely efficient design. This results in only a small reduction in efficiency, going from a remarkable 94 dB to 90 dB, which is still an impressive efficiency for a tweeter. The treble works from approx. 2.5 kHz and up. With an extremely low moving mass of just 0.01 grams, the tweeter can react incredibly quickly. The high robustness enables handling of very sharp transients without causing muffled tones.

First-class partial filters from the Z series

The Børresen X1 is equipped with a parallel cross filter, which uses the same premium components as the Z series. This results in a very mechanically stable crossover filter that minimizes self-resonance.

X1 Series Cabinet

The surface of the cabinet is elegantly finished in black piano lacquer and reinforced with carbon fiber inserts. The cabinet is made of a strong reinforced wood composite that eliminates sound distortion and reduces mechanical influences, including hysteresis. This construction provides superior sound reproduction. The X1 series is equipped with bass reflex ports and the tweeter is vented to compensate for air pressure build-up. The bass section contains tuned ports calibrated to musically relevant frequencies.
