Børresen BM3 – high-end bass module with folded dipole technology
Børresen BM3 is not a traditional subwoofer. It has been developed as a bass module, where the task is not merely to deliver more deep bass, but to integrate the lowest frequencies naturally with both the speakers and the listening room. For this purpose, Børresen uses an advanced folded dipole design with four specially developed 8" DCC8 Neo bass drivers and a total of 600 watts of built-in amplification.
BM3 reaches down to 20 Hz and combines the active design with an analog crossover and extensive noise reduction technology derived from Ansuz. The result is Børresen's take on a bass module for high-end systems, where speed, precision, and integration are at least as important as absolute depth.

Folded dipole instead of a traditional subwoofer
A traditional subwoofer typically uses a sealed or bass reflex-based design, where the bass driver creates pressure in the cabinet and the room. BM3 approaches the task differently.
The folded dipole design allows the bass system to work with air movement through openings at the front and rear. The forward and rearward radiation operates in opposite phase, which among other things reduces the bass energy to the sides.
The purpose is to reduce unwanted interaction with the room and make it easier to achieve fast and precise bass that blends with the main speakers. That is why BM3 functions not only as a provider of the deepest frequencies, but also as part of the work of controlling bass behavior in the listening room.
Four DCC8 Neo drivers and 600 watts
BM3 uses four specially developed Børresen DCC8 Neo 8" bass drivers. The four drivers are powered by built-in amplification based on Pascal Class D technology with UMAC switching.
A total of 600 watts is available, distributed as 2 x 300 watts, giving the amplifier the ability to control the four bass drivers precisely throughout their entire operating range.
It is not just about being able to play loud. The large cone capacity and the active amplification must also ensure that BM3 responds quickly to changes in the music signal and can keep up with a high-end speaker system without being perceived as a separate sound source.
Analog crossover and precise integration
BM3 uses an adjustable, fully analog low-pass filter. This makes it possible to adapt the bass module's operating range to the speakers it is intended to work with.
The analog solution has also been chosen to avoid the signal delay that can occur with digital signal processing. This is particularly relevant in a high-end stereo system, where correct timing between the main speakers and the bass system is of great importance to the sense of coherence and precision.
BM3 can receive both mono and stereo signals and has therefore been developed for integration with far more than just Børresen's own speakers.
Ansuz technology for noise and resonance control
BM3 also contains a number of technologies from Ansuz's work with noise reduction. The design includes, among other things, 36 Active Tesla Coils, 72 Active Square Tesla Coils, three dither circuits, and three Anti Aerial Resonance Coils.
At the same time, focused work has been done on mechanical resonance control. BM3 is designed to be used together with Ansuz Darkz, so vibrations between floor and cabinet can be handled mechanically.
