HDI HORN TECHNOLOGY

The Summit Makalu utilizes JBL's patented D2830K 3-inch dual-diaphragm, dual-motor compression driver, coupled to a precision-molded Sonoglass® HDI™ horn. This combination ensures high efficiency, low distortion and precise dispersion of high-frequency energy, resulting in an open and detailed soundstage with precise placement of instruments and voices.

HC4 HIGH POWER, LOW DISTORTION MID-BASS AND WOOFER

The sound foundation is provided by an 8-inch mid-bass driver and a 12-inch woofer, both built on robust molded frames. They use JBL's exclusive triple-layer Hybrid Carbon Cellulose Composite (HC4) cones, combining carbon fiber and pure paper pulp with a core of closed-cell foam. This construction provides optimal rigidity, low mass and high damping, enabling powerful bass reproduction with extreme precision and low distortion even at high sound pressures.

MULTICAP™ CROSSOVER FOR OPTIMAL SIGNAL DISTRIBUTION

The Summit Makalu features JBL's MultiCap™ crossover network, which replaces large capacitors with multiple smaller ones to reduce ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance). The result is higher signal throughput, improved power handling, lower distortion and greater dynamic range. With both single-wire and bi-amp/bi-wire connectivity options, the system can be optimized for a variety of amplifier configurations.

ACOUSTIC OPTIMIZED CABINET WITH RESONANCE CONTROL

The cabinet construction is designed with internal offset multi-bracing and curved walls to minimize standing waves and internal resonances. Heavy damping ensures a neutral acoustic environment where the drivers can perform at their best. The cabinet is available in high-gloss black with Summit platinum accents or high-gloss ebony veneer with Summit gold accents, both with carbon fiber inserts around the baffle.

ISOLATION FOR MAXIMUM CLARITY AND BASS CONTROL

The bottom of each speaker is equipped with specially designed JBL | IsoAcoustics® feet that effectively decouple the cabinet from the floor. This vibration isolation reduces unwanted energy transfer, resulting in tighter bass, improved stereo perspective and greater depth in the soundstage.
